What’s The Buzz ?

I just got back from an incredible weekend here in the woods in Tennessee, where I led my very first “Songs From The Well” Songwriters Retreat & Workshop. It won’t be my last. I’m already in the process of planning dates for Spring and Fall 2016. Stay tuned as I announce the dates, as these retreats are limited to only 14 writers.

I’m slowing down this month, just a few shows, to rest for the holidays, move (only a few miles from my previous house) and nest, before Decembersongs goes out on tour for our 6th year starting 12/3 and heading to the Midwest & Southeast this year.

If you’re in Birmingham, AL, Baton Rouge and Kansas City & St. Louis, I’m coming your way. Look left…

So a few recommendations for this cooler month.
Here’s what I’m reading right now:
Teaching A Stone To Talk, Annie Dillard
Natchez Burning, Greg Iles
The Art of Memoir, Mary Karr
Daring Greatly, Brene Brown

Here’s what I’m listening to right now:
Chris Stapleton, Traveller
Something More Than Free, Jason Isbell
Taj Mahal, anything really … kind of obsessed…

And I’m obsessed with the HBO series The Nick.

Have a great month, get outside, don’t eat too much turkey, call your mother, adopt a dog, stop drinking diet soda, add meditation into your life, go on a hike, don’t go shopping on November 27th (thank you REI for staring that trend) and keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter

Music Video Premiere: Katie Garibaldi – Lock The Door, Lose The Key

We’re excited to premiere a new music from the San Francisco based country artist, Katie Garibaldi. Garibaldi is another local artist who chooses to express herself in a more traditional music genre. With her beautiful voice and talent for musical arrangement, we always respect Katie for her hard work and well written country ballads.

I’ve kind of nicknamed “Lock The Door, Lose The Key” the ‘newlywed song’ because it’s basically about newlywed business. When I go through big life moments, including falling in love and getting married, those subjects infuse themselves into my creative mind and are reflected in my songwriting. I wrote a lot of the songs on my album, Follow Your Heart during the period of my life when I was engaged and newly married. “Lock The Door, Lose The Key” is about that honeymoon phase my husband and I were in when we basically just wanted to lock ourselves away in a blissful nest and forget the rest of the world. It’s become one of my favorite songs to perform live from the album because I’ve noticed how happy it makes people who are listening. It’s a really fun story and a staple song off Follow Your Heart that contributes to the record’s signature sound, so I chose this song for my first official music video to celebrate the album’s one-year anniversary as a celebration of what an absolute blast this past year has been touring with these songs, and as a personal thank you to my supporters. – Katie Garibaldi on writing Lock the Door, Lose the Key

“Percy Jackson meets Into The Woods!”
“From concept to reality to a strong production quality-this works, and is a winner, and I “Do believe in magic”!”
“… an enticing, well written musical theater production that captivates audiences through a fantasy world, creativity and an unbelievable amount of talent that is involved with this project. 5 star rating!”

“Do You Believe In Magic?” (DYBIM) is a brilliant, inventive alternative Rock Opera Musical for tweens & all “kids at heart” who resonate with the fantasy genre (think Into The Woods, Once Upon A Time & Harry Potter). Creator Lisa Sniderman does not disappoint! This musical masterpiece takes listeners on a spellbinding journey to the cursed kingdom of Wonderhaven where a muse (Aoede) has a secret & enchanted books & witches break into song! Audiences will embrace the colorful characters, the compelling story, the infectious songs, danceable duets, narration & full musical score.

DYBIM? (along with What Are Dreams Made Of? (WADMO 2013) & Is Love A Fairy Tale? (2012)) was produced, engineered & orchestrated by Aoede’s chief collaborator, Scrote (who has worked with Jackson Browne, Van Dyke Parks, Daniel Johnston & The Stripminers). Stellar musicians featured include: Craig Eastman, Peter Adams, Mike Klooster, Tim Young, Isaiah Gage, David Sands, Blair Sinta, Scrote & Aoede/Lisa Sniderman. In addition to the return of narrator Kevin Ponthier (who narrated both WADMO & Is Love A Fairy Tale?) & the spirited David Yow as Luk, the collection includes San Francisco Bay Area musical theater actors, who lend their dynamic voices to the characters. Tracks were recorded in Berkeley, San Francisco & Los Angeles, California. The project was mastered by Rainer Gembalcyzk.

“I create fantasy musicals and am drawn to young adult stories, adolescent struggles and Greek mythology. My musical stories reflect them, inspiring, entertaining and connecting with young adult audiences, who are underserved musically; encouraging creativity and imaginative play. I wanted to continue Aoede’s adventures in Wonderhaven and have always been fascinated with magic. In this story, the magical Kingdom of Wonderhaven is under a malicious memory curse and rapidly losing it’s magic. Aoede, the Muse of Song, believes she has no use or magic; yet she is plagued with a big secret and is the only one who can save magic and the Kingdom. It is more than mere fantasy; it is about belief in yourself.”

Sweet SoubretteBrooklyn parlor rock outfit Kotorino and sultry indie ensemble Sweet Soubrette will share an evening of lush arrangements and intense, harmony-fueled art rock at the exquisite nightclub venue Joe’s Pub on Wednesday, September 2, at 7pm.

Sweet Soubrette features lyrically intricate songs inspired by works of literature, troubled romance, and life’s mysteries, led by edgy, wry front woman Ellia Bisker and her ukulele, backed by lush arrangements of strings and horns.

The brooding, carnivalesque ensemble Kotorino, headed by Jeff Morris, shares a similar sonic palette of horns, strings, bass, drums, guitar and ukulele — but with a uniquely evocative, impressionistic songwriting approach and a gypsy jazz-inspired aesthetic.

Since 2012, Morris and Bisker have been performing as the tragicomic, noir-inspired duo Charming Disaster. This show is a rare chance to see their individual personas writ large as two separate ensembles, united by their theatrical approach to musical performance.

Katie Garibaldi Follows Her Heart To A New York Tour And Debut Show At Rockwood Music Hall!

If “heart follower” could be used to describe a career title, Katie Garibaldi would be called just that. Refusing to be labeled as a singer/songwriter in a one-trick box, Garibaldi’s musical genre teeter-totters between country and pop-esque elements, all the while keeping her modern folk roots with true to the gut lyrics, strong melodies, delicate and soul-filled birdsong vocals, and her driving steel string guitar’s finger-picking and syncopated rhythmic styles.

She picked up a guitar at age 11, unaware of how much it would awaken her deep-rooted purpose, wrote her first song that very day, and has been devoted to a life of music ever since. A DIY independent artist from the get-go, Katie Garibaldi has built her career from the ground up. Now, two decades later, with her seventh full-length album, Follow Your Heart, newly released, an endorsement deal with Breedlove Stringed Instruments, who worked with her to build her a custom Master Class guitar, several songwriting awards on her mantel, and recent rave reviews from Guitar Player magazine, who called her “a gifted songwriter with a gorgeous voice,” this Americana songstress has proven to be an artist with staying power.

Based in the golden city of San Francisco, this determined and enthusiastic singer/songwriter/guitarist is an avid national touring performer who has acquired a devoted fan base, due in large part to her engaging live shows, and personal katiegaribaldi_photo_gal__photo_392328942_lrconnection to her listeners through her music. She sings with an emotional nearness that, in combination with her melodic and catchy songs and her soulful and expressive vocals, captures her audience wherever she performs. Her new album, Follow Your Heart, which was recorded at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone Recording Studios in San Francisco, CA, and engineered by Ian Pellicci, features some of the writer’s most personal songs, includes performances by notable musicians, including multi-instrumentalist Max Butler and the Magik*Magik Orchestra, and spreads her message loud and clear of the importance of listening to the voice inside one’s heart.

A regular name along the California and West Coast, as well as frequent visits to musically ablaze cities like Austin, TX and Nashville, TN, Katie Garibaldi is following her heart’s compass this summer to the East Coast for her first ever New York tour, including a debut performance at the highly esteemed venue Rockwood Music Hall on June 29, 2015.

Katie Garibaldi Current New York Tour Dates:
Wednesday, June 24 – Silvana
Thursday, June 25 – Map Room at The Bowery Electric
Saturday, June 27 – Muchmore’s
Sunday, June 28 – The Parkside Lounge
Monday, June 29 – Rockwood Music Hall, Stage 1
Tuesday, June 30 – American Trash

All shows are free to the public.

“Not all those who wander are lost,” according to poet J.R.R. Tolkien, which can certainly be said about musical troubadour Katie Garibaldi. In an industry full of critics and naysayers, Garibaldi has stayed true to herself as an artist and songwriter throughout her fruitful career, and has demonstrated that as long as she follows her heart, she will always be exactly where she needs to be.

See Katie Garibaldi live on her first New York tour this June 2015, featuring a special debut performance at Rockwood Music Hall on Monday, June 29th at 6:00 PM on Stage 1.
Rockwood Music Hall is located at 196 Allen Street in New York, NY. This show is free and 21+.

Happy June everyone. I’m home in Nashville for an extended period of time after having been on and off the road since March with the CD Release Tour. Thank you to every single one of you who came out to the shows. We had a blast from Nashville to Boston to London to Austin and many places in between.

This summer, I have a few shows, a few festivals, and a few weeks of teaching songwriting and performing. Check the tour schedule to the left to see where you can find me.

Big News: The Vinyl of “That Kind Of Girl” arrived and it’s now for sale on my WEBSITE STORE. All of my merch, including old design T Shirts, and some new things like Poster Art and Songbooks (in limited quantities) will be added over the coming week. The bonus of ordering straight from me is that everything is $5.00 shipping (Domestic US orders only for now- if you’re from out of the US, you can order vinyl via paypal for now. Email me about this). You can also order digital downloads directly from me, rather than going to ITunes.

I’m going to be spending this summer writing. If you follow my blog or my blogette-postings on Facebook, you’ll know I’ve been writing stories and musings about life, the road, characters I meet. Well, this summer I hope to gather them all in between covers and create something longer than a 3.5 minute song. I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, I’d like to ask something of you. Well, those of you who stick with me long enough to read to the end of my newsletter. I’d like to know a few things about you to better serve you guys with my music. Write me directly. Write an email telling me a few things:

1. Where do you live and where are you most likely to come see a show of mine? What club? What town? Where haven’t I played near you that you’d like to see me?

2. What is your age?

3. How did you find out about me?

4. What do you like most about what I do and what have you always wished I might have done? (example: you like my live show best solo, you’d like to see me do a totally acoustic record)

I’m serious. Send me an email. Not a long one but there are more than 4,000 of you and I’m really curious about where you all come from and how you got here and what makes you stay (or not). The music business isn’t what it was. Most artists are independent. Even ones on small labels. The major commercial music industry is about selling fast food. Those of us who are working in the margins have the luxury of a direct connection to our community. I have made my last 2 records with your help, your financial help. If I am to make another record, which I do hope to, I’ll have to ask again as there are no record deals anymore. I’d like to know who I’m asking. I’d like to know what you like. I’ve been pondering this kind of shift in my career, that we all start out wanting the brass ring and when we get within sniffing distance of it, we see that the brass ring is really still just a trick of light. And that’s when the really good stuff happens. I can’t do this without an audience. And you guys seem to stay with me and I really appreciate it. So, write me. Let me know. And maybe I’ll post some interesting results and responses in my July newsletter.

ps. as always, if you are interested in hosting a house concert, please email me at and we can talk about it! Especially anywhere near Asheville, NC for Friday & Saturday 7/24-25

Katie Garibaldi at Indie Music Channel Awards 2015

Living Dream Music is excited to announce Katie Garibaldi has received the Emerging Artist of the Year award at the Indie Music Channel 2015 Awards! Garibaldi’s “Follow Your Heart,” the acclaimed title track off her new album, was also nominated for Best Country Song. This is the artist’s first time being nominated and winning an IMC award. Garibaldi was presented with the honor by Christopher Ewing, creator of IMC, during the ‘Best of the Year’ segment at the IMC Awards Ceremony last Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the world famous Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, CA, where she also performed her song “Follow Your Heart” live. She dedicated the song to “all the indie artists who are following their hearts.” The awards show celebrated some of the biggest names in independent music from around the world.

“I poured my heart and soul into my new album, Follow Your Heart, and it’s really amazing to be recognized for my music,” Garibaldi reflected in her acceptance speech on the night of the awards show. She has also published on her social media, “This past year has been an amazing journey with Follow Your Heart and I couldn’t be happier with the path it’s taken me on. Thanks to everyone who has believed in me and my heart’s mission! I am floored with gratitude.”

The Indie Music Channel was created by Emmy Award winning TV host, actor and model, Christopher Ewing. “I created the Indie Music Channel and ‘The Radio Cafe’ radio show because I have always felt that there needed to be more support for local, indie artists and their music. There are a lot of really talented singers and bands whose music isn’t getting enough radio play, if at all, mostly because they aren’t signed to a major label. Whether these singers or bands have a record deal or not, they still have awesome music that deserves to be heard on the radio and on television and now, through the Indie Music Channel, there is an outlet for them to get their music played.” (

With her seventh full-length album, Follow Your Heart, recently released, and an endorsement deal with Breedlove Stringed Instruments, who worked with her to build her a custom Master Class guitar, Katie Garibaldi has proven to be an artist with staying power. Based in the golden city of San Francisco, this determined and enthusiastic singer/songwriter/guitarist is an avid national touring performer—with regular appearances in Nashville, TN— who has acquired a devoted fan base, due in large part to her engaging live shows, and personal connection to her listeners through her music. The indie starling has a characteristic musical style wherein her equally pop- and country-tinged folk-rock gives her a distinct and soulful sound—Americana with sparkling memorable melodies. Katie Garibaldi is an active voting member of the Recording Academy, has been named a Music Connection magazine Top 100 Live Unsigned Artist, received the Songwriter of the Year award from Songsalive!, performed in Austin, TX for this year’s SXSW, and was recently featured in Guitar Player magazine, which called her “a gifted songwriter with a gorgeous voice.” For more information and tour dates, visit Katie at
