Happy summer! Mostly this month I’ll be sharing shows with my friend Tim Easton and his fiddler Megan Palmer with one weekend where I steal Megan and head to Chicago w/o Tim. If you don’t know Tim, you’re welcome in advance. He’s an incredible songwriter and singer from Ohio. He and his family moved here to the neighborhood from Joshua Tree a few years back. Tim’s wife, Katie, just opened a really cool art gallery here called Red Arrow. His newest record, Not Cool (Thirty Tigers), is a badass piece of rockabilly-roots music inspired by hanging on Lower Broadway at Robert’s Western World. Tim is hard to pin down: a folkie who loves to rock and bluegrass and blues and all of it. With Megan, his secret weapon, who plays a mean fiddle and sings like an angel (and she’s a great songwriter herself), we’ve been having more fun playing music together than anyone should. We’d love you to come out. And please buy tickets in advance — it helps all of us out!

July is already looking pretty sweet, including shows in town at The Family Wash & The Bluebird Cafe with John Moreland (one of my new favorite songwriters), Woodyfest, teaching at The Swannannoa Gathering & recording my next record!!!

What’s The Buzz ?

Wow…finally it’s warm out and flowers are out and the grass is overgrowing. I’m so relieved. I just got back from Texas and have literally 2 days to turn this whole thing around and head out to North Carolina and then up to the Northeast. This tour is going to be really really special as I’m playing mostly new venues and returning to a few of my favorites. I’m thrilled to be co-billing with a songwriting hero of mine, Pierce Pettis, on Sunday May 11 at The Rooster’s Wife in Aberdeen, NC (a new town and new venue for me). On Thursday May 15 I’m playing in Baltimore at the Cabaret at Germano’s, a new concert series at a fabulous Italian restaurant. I always said I’d never do dinner theater (clanking of forks whilst reciting Shakespeare scared me) but this is different. A GREAT meal and I’ll sing for you! What’s better than that? So make it a point, if you come to see me at the Baltimore area house concerts, to make reservations with your sweety or your friends. Dinner at 6. Concert at 8pm.

Then I head north and my good friend Megan Palmer, a great fiddler, singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter will be joining me for the first time. I’m really looking forward to those shows.

Oh, and I’ll be previewing some of the new songs that I’ll be recording this summer. So please come out and say hello. Send your song requests to me in advance to amy@amyspeace.com with “Request” in the title. I’d love to make sure I know the lyrics! Ha!

Happy flower picking. Tourdates to the left. Full info on website.

APRIL FOOLERY

I know…I know…it’s almost the end of the month and I’m finally letting you know where I’m going, but I’ve been bit distracted writing and stockpiling songs, writing with Neilson Hubbard, Ben Glover, Mary Gauthier, Tim Easton, Ryan Culwell, Beth Nielsen Chapman. Looking forward to getting these songs out to the world.

So much stuff but first, and most importantly, all tourdates are to the left and full details to be found at TOURPAGE so always check in there. I’m headed to TEXAS later this week for a week of shows. Before I do that, I need new tires on this van! And if anyone’s interested in trading their Prius for a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with 200,000 miles but a lot of love, I’d love to talk (wishful thinking)…

T SHIRT SALE: There’s a sale going on over at my webstore on T Shirts so get over there while they’re hot. They won’t last. We’re on our last batch…

NEW RECORD: It’s starting! I’m stockpiling songs and will be headed back to the studio in June (in Memphis) and July (in Nashville) to start the next record, again produced by the fabulous Neilson Hubbard, which will be released in March 2015. For my Stormy Boat Kickstarter family, I’ll be starting a Kickstarter campaign this summer to re-enlist the team for the next one. We’ll have it recorded by August but we’re holding off on releasing it till next year to make sure we get the rest of the details right all at once (press/radio/tour/European release/video/vinyl! etc.) and I would love it if everyone would even just pre-order the release. I’ll keep y’all updated.

SUMMER PLANS/TEACHING: So much coming up…I’ll be touring with Tim Easton in June and going to Woodyfest in July. I’ve got a few festivals this summer to play and a few I’ll be teaching at. I’ll be returning to Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song School to teach performance and headed to The Swannanoa Gathering for the first time to teach performance and songwriting.

As always, if you are interested in hosting a house concert, please email me at amy@amyspeace.com and we can talk about it!

APRIL FOOLERY

Spring is here…spring is here…spring is here! March has been chilly and productive – mostly I’ve been writing, stockpiling songs, writing with Neilson Hubbard, Ben Glover, Mary Gauthier, Beth Nielsen Chapman. Looking forward to getting these songs out to the world. I had a great time last night playing at Tin Pan South, an annual festival of songwriters by NSAI here in Nashville. Got to swap songs with some friends – Ryan Tanner, Neilson and Amber Rubarth. Tonight I may head out to a neighborhood hang to hear Tommy Womack. I love Nashville.
I won’t bore you with too much this month, just the quick facts, so you can get back outside with your dogs, in your gardens, with your spring crush, etc.

TOUR: I’m headed to the Northeast in a few days. Then at the end of the month I’ll be back to Texas. All tourdates are to the left. More details to be found at TOURPAGE

NEW RECORD: It’s starting. I’m stockpiling songs and will be headed back to the studio in June (in Memphis) and July (in Nashville) to start the next record, which will be released in March 2015. I’ll be posting information on all that soon.

SUMMER PLANS/TEACHING: So much coming up…I’ll be touring with Tim Easton in June, taking July off to record. I’ve got a few festivals this summer to play and a few I’ll be teaching at. I’ll be returning to Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song School to teach performance and headed to The Swannanoa Gatheringfor the first time to teach performance and songwriting.

In like a lion? We shall see…

Hey kids. Winter’s bite is still here. But I have hope…I just got back from the International Folk Alliance Conference in Kansas City, KS where I got to play music and listen and be a part of the tribe. I’ve been Tweeting and Facebooking about my favorites. Do you follow me there? You should!

So there’s loads of stuff this month coming up. Just one Florida tour so that I can rest a bit and write some songs (that’s what I do, or at least it’s what I’m supposed to be doing, although sometimes it feels like I pack, drive, unpack, do laundry, rinse, repeat). But soon I’ll be announcing a very special WEB CONCERT from my Living Room which will take place at the end of March here in Nashville. Keep posted on all the right channels.

What else? Well, The Same Old Storm EP has been released on it’s own now, so you can buy it digitally from ITunes and Amazon etc. Previously, it was only available as part of the Deluxe Stormy Boat package of 2 CD’s. So now you can get it on it’s very own! Whoo hoo. CLICK HERE!

The BBC’s Bob Harris recently began a web series with his son Miles called “Under The Apple Tree” on their WhisperingBob.tv site and I was their first guest! You can check out the three songs I recorded and a neato interview with Miles

And lastly, I was asked to be a part of a PSA campaign to spread the word about the Affordable Healthcare Act. You can see the ad they shot with me, which will air throughout the Southeast, on the HHS website. I know there’s all sorts of controversy about this, but finally there’s affordable healthcare for everyone. Full disclosure: my insurance is THAT cheap because I was able to offset the monthly premium with my Student Loan Interest each month. And yes, 20 years out, I’m still paying off my Student Loans. I’m a musician, remember… my parents are just happy I can pay rent! 🙂

Tourdates for March are to the left.

HOUSE CONCERT OPENING FOR 4/19 ALBANY/SARATOGA SPRINGS. Email me amy@amyspeace.com if you’re interested. All you need is a good space for it, at least 30 people you can get into that space, and we can put on a show!

What’s The Buzz ?

Hey everyone! Just back from an amazing tour in Holland and a few days in London. Can’t wait to get back there (July UK and October the Netherlands). But for now, I’m in Nashville where it’s been about 7 degrees. Today it’s hovering in the low 50’s, so I’m gonna make this really quick so I can get outside into this sunshine. So just the important stuff.

Firstly, I’ve had to cancel the Pacific NW tour I was about to embark upon with Kenny White and I apologize profusely. We are rescheduling those dates for the Fall so Portland, Seattle, Eugene and Sisters, we will be back. Thanks for understanding. Life comes up and sometimes you just have to deal with life first. I miss y’all out there, though, so I can’t wait to get to you.

Second, the companion EP to “How To Sleep In A Stormy Boat” called “Same Old Storm” has only been available as a set with the full record. UP TILL NOW! We are releasing the EP on it’s own digitally later this month all over the place from my website to Amazon to I Tunes. So check in with the news page on my website for the exact date. It includes a few unreleased songs and a solo version of “The Sea & The Shore”. Can’t wait for you to have it!

This month I’m heading to Kansas for a few dates with my buddy http://www.ryanculwell.comhttp://www.ryanculwell.com who is amazeballs. Then we head to Kansas City for the International Folk Alliance Conference where I’m showcasing on Friday night. See some of you there…

So let’s cross our fingers that Punxatawny Phil sees his shadow. Or doesn’t…I can never remember which it is. I just want a not-so-extreme winter. Pipes bursting, high heat bills, long down coats in a southern town…it’s not right.

Stay warm,
Amy

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

So much stuff going on this month I’m very excited to share with you. First of all, I hit the road this week with my yearly Holiday Show, now in it’s 4th year, called DECEMBERSONGS. This year, we bring you the East Nashville version, starring Rod Picott, Doug & Telisha Williams (now known as Wild Ponies) and myself. Our tour begins on Friday in Ashland, VA and winds its way north and midwest, landing at The Bluebird Cafe on Dec. 18, then down to Georgia and North Carolina and ending up at a lovely house concert in Columbia, TN. We have a brand spanking new CD for you to purchase as well (here at ITUNES TOO!!), produced by Neilson Hubbard and recorded on one fine summer day. It includes 3 holiday favorites (“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” etc.) and 3 originals including Rod’s soon-to-be-classic “Dad’s Drunk Again On Christmas”. A definite stocking stuffer (and our apologies to our non-Christmas celebrating friends, but we couldn’t find a good Hannukah or Kwanzaa song to record this time around).

Also, I’m proud to be a part of a new release called Nashville Indie Spotlight which releases tomorrow Dec. 3rd on ITunes. It includes unreleased tracks by other indie Nashvillians, including Peter Bradley Adams, Katie Herzig, Ruby Amanfu, Angel Snow, Matthew Perryman Jones, Butterfly Boucher and more. My solo version of “The Sea & The Shore” is on there. Look for more info as I get it on my website home page.

Lastly, a holiday special for you. All CD’s and T Shirts bought directly from me are at a 20% discount through the month of December (check out the mercy at my website merch page). That means, “How To Sleep In a Stormy Boat” which is usually $25 is now $20. Shipping domestic is $3 for 1 CD, and adjusts with each order depending on weight. International CD shipping will depend on where it’s going so I’ll email you with that cost. But let me know ASAP by emailing me directly here with HOLIDAY SPECIAL in the subject line. Note: This special is NOT available if you order through the website store. Only direct! I’ll even sign them if you’d like!

What’s up in January? Well, a European tour of my own, that’s what…stay tuned. And be good, boys and girls…

Hi y’all. Fresh back from a whirlwind month or so, from The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival to Storyhill Festival to Sisters Folk Festival, home to Nashville to move to a new house and showcase at The Americana Festival and then off to Europe to tour with the incredible John Fullbright, one of my favorite Okies (Parker Milsaps being another, Jimmy Webb, another and Laurie and Curley and that strange ballet sequence in the red dust). That’s me up there in that photo on a day off with John and our good friend AJ Roach outside the castle in Edinburgh. If you’re just joining the list having found me on the European tour, thanks for swinging by. We played to sold out audiences from London to Utrecht to Belfast to Edinburgh and it was thrilling. I’m coming back in January to headline my own tour, so keep in touch.

The rest of this month is pretty much a writing and recouping time for me, but if any of you out there are songwriters, I work (in these off times) as a coach on Songwriting, Performance and Career Goal Setting for the Indie Songwriter. My rates are reasonable and we can work via phone or Skype, so please email me at amy@amyspeace.com to set up a time and we can talk. I’ve been teaching my Performance class at Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song School for 7 years now and have also taught at Sisters Folk Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival Song School, Lamb’s Retreat for Songwriters, NERFA, NAFA, through NSAI and various other places. I love doing this, so don’t hesitate to contact me.

November I head up to the Northeast (LOOK LEFT AND YOU’LL SEE THE TOURDATES — PLEASE BUY TIX IN ADVANCE). I have a few openings for potential House Concerts if anyone is interested in hosting. If you’re curious, head HERE and there’s a link to my House Concert Info Sheet (which I adapted from my friend Danny Schmidt’s). It’s the All You Need To Know To Host an Amy Speace Concert In Your Home. 🙂

Here are my free dates for Fan Based House Concerts.

The rest of October – anywhere within reasonable driving distance to Nashville – GA, TN, Etc.
Wed. 11/6 – PA, MD, NY, NJ
Tues 11/12 – MD, DC, PA, NJ
Thu 11/14 – MD, PA, NJ, DC

So please don’t hesitate to contact me. House Concerts are fun for me and fun for you and they are very simple to put on and make a really cool event for your friends and neighbors.

Stay in touch with me via Facebook and Twitter. And a reminder that not only are ALL of my CD’s for sale on the OFFICIAL AMY SPEACE STORE (which is the best way to get my merchandise direct), also T Shirts are there.

Tourdates to the left…jokers to the right…here I am…

From a sun-filled kitchen in Hackey, UK…

I’m so thrilled to be the support act for my friend John Fullbright, an incredible artist of heart and soul and depth that belies his 26 years. He was nominated for a Grammy this year for Best Americana Album and I get to tag along for a few weeks here. I really would love all of you to come out and hear him, plus we’ll be doing “The Sea & The Shore” each night together during my opening set so come early. The details are to the left here and as always, check TOURDATES on my website for more details and for the future…

Come to the merch table and say hello if you’ve seen me before with Ian Hunter or Alejandro Escovedo (or just come say hi)!

9/9/13 from Sisters, Oregon…

I’m writing to y’all from the magical wonderland that is Sisters, Oregon on the backend of The Sisters Folk Festival and Song & Art Academy. I spent the last week in an incredible conversation about art and music and songwriting and performance with some of my favorite songwriters (Steve Poltz, Natalia Zukerman, The Sea The Sea, Kenny White, Amber Rubarth, Ryan Montbleau, Ray Bonneville, Richard Julian, RJ Cowdrey) and about a hundred or so students and many visual artists and an amazing poet, Nathan Brown, the poet laureate of Oklahoma. We worked together at Caldera, a breathtaking artists retreat center outside of Sisters. At the end of the week, we descended to town to meet the rest of the festival artists and the teeming throngs for the festival. All I can tell you is if you are a fan of music, you MUST make a pilgrimage to Sisters Folk Festival. The vibe is unparalleled. The music is great. The weather was outstanding. The scenery was stunning. And the Kombucha is on tap. What more can you ask for?

I return to Nashville tomorrow to move into a new house and then the Americana Music Festival begins in my town. I’ll be showcasing around town so check the tourdates and come say hi. And then, at the end of this month, I’ll be headed back to the UK and for the FIRST time I’ll get to play in The Netherlands and Ireland. I’m touring with the incredible John Fullbright so please come out to the shows to say hello.

Buy the new record. Also, t shirts are in at the STORE on my website!

xoxo
