Held from March 14 to 16 in Dublin, Ireland and also in London in the UK, the C2C (Country To Country), arrived in Europe for the second consecutive year!

The country stars who have made the trip to Dublin are big: Dierks Bentley, the female trio, Dixie Chicks, the great Zac Brown Band, the pop country trio Rascal Flatts, Cowboy Chris Young, the manic and guitar virtuoso Brad Paisley and the surprise guest was the pop country trio The Band Perry! On this occasion the News from Nashville team were welcomed in the City of Dublin in Ireland to attend this mega show. It was fantastic and tailored to the beautiful O2 containing 14000 places and somd out both nights!

Friday night, Dierks Bentley opened the festivities with a fairly classical repertoire. We were able to enjoy all the best tracks. So we enjoyed a Dierks Bentley performance. The evening continued with the arrival on scene of the female trio, The Dixie Chicks. Obviously the Irish public loved and knew the lyrics of all their songs, even the rock and the unexpected cover of Miley Cyrus. Headining the show on Friday: ZBB otherwise Zac Brown Band!

Zac Brown began by taking the front of the stage and thanking the audience for making the financial effort, despite the crisis, coming to C2C and saying he was very honored to be here in Europe. This talented group showed a high color mixture of Country and Southern Rock, the hard rock of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and a great surprise medley title Uncaged , Kashmire of Led Zeppelin and the Mega Hit of the Charlie Daniels Band “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” – the group appeared dressed as skeletons to finish the show!

Rascal Flatts

The artist who opened Saturday was Cowboy Chris Young giving a superb performance with his professionalism and his powerful voice that has had its effect on the Irish public. The Rascal Flatts followed. It as a very good concert with beautiful vocal harmonies and again a mix of rock and pop country, the audience really loved them. Then there was the surprise guest who appeared in the form of a trio, The Band Perry with their country rock sound, always full of energy, perhaps too much because the singer Kimberly Perry jumped and ran around from one end to the other of the great stage of the O2 Dublin tending to shout rather than actually sing, too bad.

The Band Perry

But the best is yet to come up with the headline that alone was worth the trip, Mister Brad Paisley! We were able to attend a very different show from what we had seen previously in London and even Nashville.

Brad arrived in Europe with all his paraphernalia of video material, full of visual effects, lasers and very professional technical giving his show a dramatic side, but also with a lot of humor, jokes, funny video clips including a goat as a vocalist who brought much laughter to the Irish public, really fun!

At a time when the Music City, Nashville, seems to have lost the sense of things with country becoming very pop or rock, Texans want to defend true country music according to the dictionary definition.

Wyndham Garden Hotel and Woodward Conference Center

Wyndham Garden Hotel and Woodward Conference Center

Same thing is for true rock’n’roll which disappeared, the “Honky Tonk” sound and “Western Swing” which is increasingly rare even in the U.S.! This week in the City of Austin, Texas is the place of the first edition of the Ameripolitan Music Awards in the prestigious Wyndham Garden Hotel and Woodward Conference Center. The purpose of this new event is to show the world what real country music is and to restore its true value.

By definition, country music is the harmony between musical creativity and stories – so,gs tell the stories. All songs must maintain traditional instrumentation.

For example, the “Honky Tonk”, must be dancing like a waltz, and that the words be varied, often with patriotic themes, but they speak of love and life. Ditto for the Western Swing , with lyrics mostly based on life, and of course, dancing, as has it has been with the group Asleep At The Wheel Group!

Asleep At The Wheel

Asleep At The Wheel

The Outlaw style is the archetype of the true country, rhythm and rock like that of the great Waylon Jennings his wife, Jessie Colter – and do not forget Willie Nelson. On rockabilly, dance can ensconce the tempos and the song lyrics are simple.

Rockabilly’s favorite subject, of course, is cars, but also dating. These were themes of the songs of legends: Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others! The ceremony will place (like all great evenings) with entertainment and prizes awarded to the best artists of Rockabilly or Country.

The Grammy Awards! You never heard much about them before [France], but this year the French Daft Punk have won several Grammys in their class, so now you know what I’m going to talk to you!

January 26, marked the 56th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California! Each music category is represented -rock, techno, pop music, electronic music, metal, country music and many other styles!

Kacey Musgraves

But as what we’re interested in, of course, is country and the artist who stands out in 2014, is the singer Kacey Musgraves. She walked away with two Grammys, one for Best Country Album, “Same Trailer Different Park”, but also for Best Country Song with the title “Merry Go ‘Round “!

The former lead singer of rock band, Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, won the award for Best Country Solo Performance with the hit “Wagon Wheel” and even the duo The Civil Wars who are husband and wife in life, walked away with the prize, the Best Country Duo, with the single “From This Valley”. Forget disputes that threatened to ruin their careers.

For the Americana part, actor-turned singer and musician Steve Martin accompanied by Edie Brickell took the Grammy for Best American Roots Song with “Love Has Come For You”, a song in the same style as the superb duo Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell who took the prize for Best Americana Album for “Old Yellow Moon”.

And finally, in the Bluegrass category, Del McCoury Band walks away with the award for Best Bluegrass Album for “The Streets Of Baltimore”.

The other Texan, Miranda Lambert, was presented on stage with Billie Joe Armstrong, who is none other than the singer and guitarist of rock band Green Day. They all paid tribute to Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers duo who passed away on January 3 with the song “When Will I Be Loved.” Young Hunter Hayes also took the opportunity to interpret his new novel single “Invisible”, Keith Urban appeared live with Gary Park Junior, and Taylor Swift appeared alone at the piano!

Then came the icing on the cake with the arrival on stage of a great plateau of the real stars of Country music: Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard along with Blake Shelton on a medley of classics, “Highwayman”, “Okie From Muskogee”, and “Don ‘t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”! We will fly over the list of singles and albums to come at the end of the month in January 2014!

After a long hiatus of almost nine years devoting herself completely to her family, the artist Jo Dee Messina is back with some new music. She is no longer under contract to Curb Records.

She will be starting from scratch with a new “Peace Sign” single that is already made its way onto U.S. radio waves. The single will be followed by the next release of a fifth studio album, which she simply called “Me”. No doubt that on this new album, Jo Dee Messina will refer to the last nine years of her life. Note the release date of the album “Me” scheduled for March 18.

The country pop trio, the Rascal Flatts arrives this week on U.S. radio airwaves with the song “Rewind”. A new album is planned for 2014. To learn more, stay tuned to listen to the “News from Nashville”!

Definitely, this is the week of comebacks! Cowboy Chris Young is back invading American radio with the song, “Who I Am With You.” This title is taken from his latest album, released 17 September 2013 entitled “A.M.” which appeared on the RCA Nashville label.

From the talented Maggie Rose, we present this week’s new song she entitled “Looking Back Now” to be discovered!

Katie Armiger does the same and gives us a new single called “Safe” from her excellent album “Fall Into Me” released in January 2013; an album that I highly recommend!

And finally, we end with the young Easton Corbin. Despite his vocal talent, similar to that of King Of Country Music, George Strait, Easton Corbin, unfortunately, does not know the lightening flash of some pop stars today. But he has not given give up and we will present next week, a new unreleased single called “Clockwork” that you will find on his new album to come …. For more soon, stay tuned to “News from Nashville”!

Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers died January 3rd at age 74 following a long illness in Burbank, California where he was hospitalized.

Phil Everly along with his brother, Don, was a true icon of rock and roll and country music from the late 50s until 1988.

The City of Music, Nashville, became their new home and that is where they record their first album “The Everly Brothers” and “Songs Our Daddy Taught Us” all released in 1958. Two most memorable tracks are “Bye Bye Love” and “Wake Up Little Susie.” On the first album, there are a lot of known tracks such as “Be-Bop-A-Lula” Rock’n’Roll by legend Gene Vincent, “Keep a Knockin” by Little Richard and “This Little Girl of Mine” by Ray Charles.

Since 1960, The Everly Brothers were signed to the Warner label until 1968. The Everly Brothers, rather gifted in business, were the first artists to get the best deal in history with their label, reaching the million dollar mark. That said, Warner Records has lost nothing in exchange for during the past eight years at Warner, success was guaranteed “Cathy’s Clown”, “Walk Right Back”, “Stick With Me Baby” and among others, the song “Gone Gone Gone ”

brilliantly performed in 2007 by singer Alison Krauss Bluegrass Country in a duet with Robert Plant, the leader of the English band Led Zeppelin.

In 1973, the two brothers what separated and took the opportunity to make a solo career but also to compose until 1983. Phil had a lot of success with the song he has written and performed with actress Sondra Locke “Do not Say You Do not Love Me No More” for the comedy “Every Which Way But Loose “comedy” starring Clint Eastwood.

Every Which Way But Loose

In 1983, Phil Everly a hit in England as a soloist with his self-named album. His studio musician at the time was Dire Straits Mark Knopfler guitarist and drummer Terry Williams!

Also in 1983, the two brothers signed on the Mercury label albums. In 1986, they were inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame and they also received a star on the famous sidewalk of Los Angeles, the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

In 2001, they entered the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in Nashville.

It was a long and successful career in Rock’n’roll Country for Phil and Don Everly timeless … Rest in Peace Phil …

Music City has made its choice! Since the surprise resignation of Steve Moore, former president of the Country Music Association on June 30, the powers the be in Nashville have been in search of a new president.

Sarah Trahern

After an extensive research, a vote was finally taken to elect new president. Her name is Sarah Trahern and she takes the reins of the CMA in January 2014! A native of Illinois, Sarah Trahern is far from being a novice in the world of country music. beginning in 2005 she held the position of Senior Vice President of the television channel GAC, Great American Country, and from 2010, she was CEO!

The search was by no means random. As stated in the American press, Troy Tomlinson, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CMA:

Troy Tomlinson

“We have elected a leader for her talent, but also her knowledge of the world of country music and of course television.” Due to her position at the highest level in the general direction of GAC, Sarah Trahern is well known to record labels, publicists, publishers as well as country artists, which not be will be a surprise to anyone!

26, 27, 28 July marked the Craponne Festival at Craponne sur Arzon. This great festival hosted a very interesting range of artists from Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana, Italy, United Kingdom and France!

All musical styles were represented – Bluegrass, Cajun, Americana, Southern Rock, Rockabilly, Swing, New Country, Triple X -Traditional Country or not.

In short, something for everyone! Despite somewhat capricious weather with a few showers here and there on Saturday night and Sunday, the faithful festival audience responded. Blandine Pelin, the new president for the past two years, has again called on Johnny Da Piedade, the producer and host of the Big Cactus Country who had the pleasure to present this major event for the 16th consecutive year!

The festival started with The Swing Commanders British band. Some of you may have seen the poster of the festival’s American Journey in 2011. Their dynamic hyper show immediately captured the Craponne public especially with the arrival on stage of a couple dancing Jive Rock’n’Roll. Not very young, but they set fire to the stage.

And same goes with Frank Solivan and The Dirty Kitchen leaving the audience speechless with their Bluegrass at a very high level. Well, then there was the discovery of the Festival. More like rocking Country with John David Kent and his powerful show, Sam Riggs and Night People’s New Country was a real surprise of the festival with a warm and modern repertoire.

The great Italian artists, the Starliters group, gave us their authentic Hillbilly & Rockabilly touch. And it did fly. Cajun female trio Whiskey & Women rather accustomed bar environments captivated the audience.

On the French side, Mister Jay and his band caused a sensation with a superb performance worthy of a Brad Paisley made in France! Ditto for Norfolk AC, aka Cyril Amblard, a native of Clermont Ferrand. His performance gave us a concert tinged Americana sound, complete with covers of his idol, Bruce Springsteen, including the famous “Born In The USA”.

The Ambassador of true Country music, appeared dressed as George Strait. His name is Will Banister and his powerful voice, gave us a style almost identical to that of a “Merle Haggard” “Alan Jackson” or “George Jones” – total triumph for Will Banister intonations!

A little Mexican warmth and femininity came with singer Tex Mex Stephanie Urbina Jones who was also really liked. The madmen and Cajuns, The Pine Leaf Boys, are not about to forget their Festival closing, so the public was asked to rehearse with reminders.

In recent years, the Craponne Festival has provided a show with Southern Rock-like bad boys. This year the proud representatives of southern Rock Country was the quartet The Pear Ratz!

The Pear Ratz

The Pear Ratz

A big sound from its former singers of a metal band, they mixed good Texas Southern Rock and pure country music with many sounds likening to Waylon Jennings. But then all groups were good, I hear you say? Yes, very good. There was the excellent JB and The Moonshine Band, a group of Texas musicians with kindness and friendliness equal to their technical level. They interpreted all their greatest hits including the excellent No. 1 of the Texas Music Charts “The Only Drug”!

JB and The Moonshine Band

The show from JB and his band, is certainly one of the two best concerts of this mega festival, with the Maverick course. I will not forget the headliner, everyone looked forward to – The Mavericks. They made their entrance as a group of rock stars! But the result was more than perfect in every way. Their show was very tailored and included all very festive classics including many titles from the last great album for the delight of the public! A concert to meet expectations in the tradition of what the festival is – great Country.

The organizers, elated by the success of this 2013 edition, are planning to get some sleep now and see you next year for the 27th edition to be held on 25, 26 and 27 July 2014!
