What’s The Buzz ?

Hey everyone! Just back from an amazing tour in Holland and a few days in London. Can’t wait to get back there (July UK and October the Netherlands). But for now, I’m in Nashville where it’s been about 7 degrees. Today it’s hovering in the low 50’s, so I’m gonna make this really quick so I can get outside into this sunshine. So just the important stuff.

Firstly, I’ve had to cancel the Pacific NW tour I was about to embark upon with Kenny White and I apologize profusely. We are rescheduling those dates for the Fall so Portland, Seattle, Eugene and Sisters, we will be back. Thanks for understanding. Life comes up and sometimes you just have to deal with life first. I miss y’all out there, though, so I can’t wait to get to you.

Second, the companion EP to “How To Sleep In A Stormy Boat” called “Same Old Storm” has only been available as a set with the full record. UP TILL NOW! We are releasing the EP on it’s own digitally later this month all over the place from my website to Amazon to I Tunes. So check in with the news page on my website for the exact date. It includes a few unreleased songs and a solo version of “The Sea & The Shore”. Can’t wait for you to have it!

This month I’m heading to Kansas for a few dates with my buddy http://www.ryanculwell.comhttp://www.ryanculwell.com who is amazeballs. Then we head to Kansas City for the International Folk Alliance Conference where I’m showcasing on Friday night. See some of you there…

So let’s cross our fingers that Punxatawny Phil sees his shadow. Or doesn’t…I can never remember which it is. I just want a not-so-extreme winter. Pipes bursting, high heat bills, long down coats in a southern town…it’s not right.

Stay warm,

So much stuff going on this month I’m very excited to share with you. First of all, I hit the road this week with my yearly Holiday Show, now in it’s 4th year, called DECEMBERSONGS. This year, we bring you the East Nashville version, starring Rod Picott, Doug & Telisha Williams (now known as Wild Ponies) and myself. Our tour begins on Friday in Ashland, VA and winds its way north and midwest, landing at The Bluebird Cafe on Dec. 18, then down to Georgia and North Carolina and ending up at a lovely house concert in Columbia, TN. We have a brand spanking new CD for you to purchase as well (here at ITUNES TOO!!), produced by Neilson Hubbard and recorded on one fine summer day. It includes 3 holiday favorites (“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” etc.) and 3 originals including Rod’s soon-to-be-classic “Dad’s Drunk Again On Christmas”. A definite stocking stuffer (and our apologies to our non-Christmas celebrating friends, but we couldn’t find a good Hannukah or Kwanzaa song to record this time around).

Also, I’m proud to be a part of a new release called Nashville Indie Spotlight which releases tomorrow Dec. 3rd on ITunes. It includes unreleased tracks by other indie Nashvillians, including Peter Bradley Adams, Katie Herzig, Ruby Amanfu, Angel Snow, Matthew Perryman Jones, Butterfly Boucher and more. My solo version of “The Sea & The Shore” is on there. Look for more info as I get it on my website home page.

Lastly, a holiday special for you. All CD’s and T Shirts bought directly from me are at a 20% discount through the month of December (check out the mercy at my website merch page). That means, “How To Sleep In a Stormy Boat” which is usually $25 is now $20. Shipping domestic is $3 for 1 CD, and adjusts with each order depending on weight. International CD shipping will depend on where it’s going so I’ll email you with that cost. But let me know ASAP by emailing me directly here with HOLIDAY SPECIAL in the subject line. Note: This special is NOT available if you order through the website store. Only direct! I’ll even sign them if you’d like!

What’s up in January? Well, a European tour of my own, that’s what…stay tuned. And be good, boys and girls…

Amy Speace_001

How To Sleep In A Stormy Boat is an 11-song journey through grief and grace produced by Neilson Hubbard, Dave Marsh (who contributed liner notes) calls it “the most daring, confident, ambitious and beautiful album Amy Speace has made since she began recording.” It includes a duet with Grammy-nominated John Fullbright and guest appearances by Ben Sollee and Mary Gauthier.

How to Sleep In A Stormy Boat is here! On April 16th, my newest record will release into the world and I couldn’t be more excited. On that day, I am thrilled to be playing at JOE’S PUB in New York, NY w/ my band. If you’re in NYC, please plan to be there!!! Many of you contributed to my Kickstarter campaign months ago and your belief in me and generosity small and large made this possible. In a few days the new website will launch and I encourage you all to buy the record(s) from my STORE or in person at a show. Of course, you can also find me at ITunes, Amazon, and some local indy record stores as well. The companion EP, “Same Old Storm” will only be available as part of a Bonus pack, the 2 CD Stormy Boat Deluxe (which means you cannot buy it separately). I can’t wait for you to hear it.

And I’m bringing the tour your way and I really would love to see you! I know how hard it is to make a plan to get out to hear live music, but doesn’t it make you feel better? This will be a special show: my trio The Storm (Josh Oliver on guitars and Hannah Schroeder on cello) will be joined by our special guest openers and my dear friends The Sea The Sea, Chuck E. Costa and Mira Stanley. This is a rare event, y’all, so I hope you’ll come out, buy tickets in advance, pack the places. We’ll be winding our way from Boston to New York to Virginia to MOUNTAIN STAGE (playing w Billy Bragg & Joe Pugg & The Flatlanders…pinch me) to Ann Arbor and Chicago and home to THE BLUEBIRD CAFE, home of legendary songwriters, where we’ll do a special night, an “Evening with…” kind of thing. A good reason to make that trip to Nashville…

And we’ve got 2 openings for House Concerts on this tour. Tuesday April 23 and Thursday April 24. We’d prefer you to come to the shows already scheduled, but if you can’t get to them, how bout have us in your home or community center? Northern MI, Ohio, Indiana, etc. Let me know directly at amy@amyspeace.com and I can walk you through what it takes. It’s easy, it’s fun. You just need a space big enough to hold at least 25 people (our minimum) sitting on chairs, pillows, the floor, etc. We’ll play unplugged.

Tourdates are below. Please come out! I’d love to see you.

Happy February all, the month of my birth, my mama’s birth, my grandma’s birth…water signs or water carriers we Irish women…
I’m about to head out into the cold blue to make my way north, very far north, to Toronto, Canada for the International Folk Alliance Conference where I’ll be debuting my new record, “How To Sleep In A Stormy Boat” in my showcases. The record doesn’t release until April 16, but already we are beginning the publicity swing and it’s all very exciting. More news on that soon. On the February tour, I’ll be joined by my friend Angel Snow, one of my favorite singer-songwriters here in Nashville. You might have heard of Alison Krauss? Yeah her. Well, Alison Krauss recorded a few of Angel’s songs and has introduced Angel to her audiences. Not so shabby, huh?
In the meantime, here are the tourdates. I’ll have a new look to my website in the next month, so don’t be a stranger there as we’ll be posting a lot of cool content soon. Next month, I head to South By Southwest, so if anyone in Texas or en route wants to do a house concert March 8/9 I’m headed to Austin for my show on March 12th. Lemme know!!!!

What’s The Buzz ?

Happy Holidays to everyone!!!

What an amazing, surprising year. I’m blessed to have all of you still with me, still reading these emails, still coming to shows. Thank you to each and every one of you. Here’s what’s happening and what’s been happening:

Right before Thanksgiving, I signed with John Porter of Mood Indigo Entertainment as my new manager and I’m thrilled to be working with John. He’s worked with some incredible artists, Carrie Rodriguez, Kaiser Cartel, and my friend Antje Duvekot. I part ways with David Macias of Thirty Tigers very very amicably. David and I began working together about 3 years ago and he’s taken my career to another level and I am grateful. But he’s also an incredible visionary of new models within this crazy music business and his company, Thirty Tigers (name checked in Forbes magazine this year), is expanding and growing and while that is exciting and makes me happy for my friend, it simply means that he does not have the time to devote to artist management any longer. David was instrumental in helping me find a new manager and he remains on the Speace Team as project manager and just a damned good friend. Onward…!

As well, the new record, “How to Sleep In A Stormy Boat” will be released in April by Tone Tree Music. You might have heard of a small little group that Tone Tree also worked with…The Civil Wars? Yeah, them–they didn’t suck (but now they’re no longer….). I’m very excited about this shift and can’t wait to work with the good folks over at Tone Tree.

The Blue Rock Review recently released it’s latest annual volume, called “Vox” and it marks the first time a piece of my non-music writing has been published, as my essay (originally posted on my blog InnerSpeace) about my laryngitis and meditation, “The Sky Is Falling…” is included. The Review is “an annual journal of visual art, essays, poetry, and interviews about the creative process.”

Next week, my annual Holiday show with my good friends, Dan Navarro, Sally Barris and Jon Vezner, called DECEMBERSONGS, hits the road after our first show of the season at the famed Bluebird Cafe here in Nashville. We’ll be heading north into the cold, so please come out and join us to ring in holiday cheer! Dates are listed below with links to websites. As always, please buy tickets in advance. It helps us know you’re coming. And most importantly, it helps the venues stay in business. We like that. Keeping people happy.

So Merry, Happy, Feliz and all.
