Sagarika Releases Her New Single ‘Shine A Light’

11 November 2013

Sagarika is one of the most exciting new voices on the international pop music scene. This magnificent single, ‘Shine A Light’, is a statement of strength and hope for women in the world, reflecting Sagarika’s own strength and belief for the future of women in the 21st Century. Her recording brings out the strength of melody and harmony characteristic of her music.

Sagarika makes it perfectly clear – “Coming from a musical family, singing has always played a BIG part of my life.” She has been on stage since she was two years old and she has been awarded many certificates and awards. Musically, her pop style has developed as a unique fusion of Western and Indian music.

The beautiful pop ballad, ‘My First Broken Heart’, composed by Billy Playle and with lyrics by Mellina Barnett, was number one on the ‘Indian Online Music Charts’ for six consecutive weeks and received airplay on the BBC. With ‘Shine A Light’ Sagarika again joins up with Playle and Barnett coming forth with her unstoppable desire to bring hope of a new light for all the women suffering in the world, especially for the women in India. The song was originally written and performed for the Navjyoti India Foundation, which is well-known for its work in the areas of education, women empowerment and vocational training.

Sagarika is currently working on her first EP on which she shows us that she can not only deliver on meaty ballads, but pick up the pace with bouncy pop.

FOR THE WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD SUFFERING!Listen to the song, follow the meaning and act to stop the cruelty. Women have rights to breath and live in free air as much as men do. (Slow Version)Together We Can Shine a Light (ENGLISH) (Lyricist – Melinna Barnett)

VERSE ONE Darkness seems to follow me Even the sun can’t warm my heart Because when I lay down to sleep I fall apart……I fall apart

VERSE TWO I try to fly, with my dreams For just a moment I’m really free To follow my path, feel the wind And life is beautiful, beautiful for me

CHORUS With every breathe I pray That our fingers are linked as one That a river will flow and carry me To where a peace is found Help me find my voice – Pull me from the shadow and let your love be bright And with your hand in mine, we can shine a light We can shine a light

VERSE THREE Do-you-think-of-me, do you care? Across the stars can you feel my pain? Am I a memory, with, yesterday’s news? Am I Just a shadow, without a name

VERSE FOUR Can you be my strength when I’m tired? Will you look beyond today? Will you take a stand and hold me When, when the tears get in the way

CHORUS With every breathe I pray That our fingers are linked as one That a river will flow and carry me To where a peace is found Help me find my voice Pull me from the shadow and let your love be bright And with your hand in mine we can shine a light We can shine a light

BRIDGE And with you we can break these chains that hold us down The world is small when we all unite…..And together we can shine a light Together we can be free and shine a light

CHORUS With every breathe I pray That our fingers are linked as one That a river will flow and carry me To where a peace is found Help me find my voice Pull me from the shadow and let your love be bright And with your hand in mine we can shine a light We can shine a light

Sagarika has been honored with a “Certificate of Recognition” for her work in bringing World Music together through Mobile and Internet Technologies. Sagarika had also participated in the Parallel Session ‘Mobile For Good’ to inform everyone about the on-line music collaborations and its successes so far. Her presentation was highly successful among the audiences getting a lot of applause for the Wild Blossoms Project and acquiring new fan following, from the South Asian Countries.

Sagarika continues her proactive involvement with issues related to women’s empowerment. Most recently, working with the Navjyoti India Foundation, she has started production of a new song for the campaign called Bigul (Bugle in English). The concept is to use the music and lyrics as a means to bring awareness to the BIGUL Campaign. This song is intended to become an anthem that can be shared throughout India and beyond. Sagarika plans to visit schools and colleges singing and spreading the BIGUL meaning, while bringing awareness to the safety of Indian women, young and old.

In Sagarika’s words,

“Being an enthusiastic supporter of many charitable causes, I was delighted to begin a correspondence with the NGO [Navjyoti India Foundation]. During our correspondence we discussed their campaign for ‘Women’s’ Empowerment’. The campaign called BIGUL is aimed at bringing awareness to women and their safety issues.”

“I was most fortunate to have an inspiring conversation with the charity’s Executive, and a date was made for a meeting shortly after. During our meeting we discussed the Women’s Empowerment campaign at great length. This conversation covered the organisation, its aspirations, and how I could contribute and be part of it in any way possible.”

Two versions of this song have been composed. A beautiful ballad version has already been composed by Billy Playle, with touching lyrics by Mellina Barnett, two songwriters from the UK that Sagarika has worked with many times in the past. One other version of this song is being composed by Sujith Kurian of Kochi, India. This will be
the Hindi version.

Mel’s lyrics have been translated and altered by Sagarika as requested by the NGO. By having two versions of the song we feel we have a greater opportunity to communicate the meaning of the words and hopefully help the NGO in sharing their cause with a larger audience. The intention is to distribute the Hindi version of the song in India, and the intention is to wants to share the song amongst Hindi radio stations and the press in the UK. The English version of the song will eventually be available in digital format too.

This charity, the Navjyoti India Foundation, is extremely important to Sagarika, and her fellow songwriters. We plan to not only bring awareness to the NGO and its campaign, but through music hope to bring attention to the rest of the world to the plight of women in India, and beyond.
