Hello! My name is Alison. I’ve been passionate about country music since I was very young. I got to know music by following styles – rock, southern rock and the country music styles of today – and by cruising through the USA. I’ve also bought a lot of CDs! In recent years, I started broadcasting the “Les News de Nashville” on the Big Cactus Country presented by my friend Johnny Da Piedade. You can read my blog post on the Big Cactus Country site as well as here on the HorizonVU Music Blog and SHOP!

At a time when the Music City, Nashville, seems to have lost the sense of things with country becoming very pop or rock, Texans want to defend true country music according to the dictionary definition.

Same thing is for true rock’n’roll which disappeared, the “Honky Tonk” sound and “Western Swing” which is increasingly rare even in the U.S.! This week in the City of Austin, Texas is the place of the first edition of the Ameripolitan Music Awards in the prestigious Wyndham Garden Hotel and Woodward Conference Center. The purpose of this new event is to show the world what real country music is and to restore its true value.

By definition, country music is the harmony between musical creativity and stories – so,gs tell the stories. All songs must maintain traditional instrumentation.

For example, the “Honky Tonk”, must be dancing like a waltz, and that the words be varied, often with patriotic themes, but they speak of love and life. Ditto for the Western Swing , with lyrics mostly based on life, and of course, dancing, as has it has been with the group Asleep At The Wheel Group!

The Outlaw style is the archetype of the true country, rhythm and rock like that of the great Waylon Jennings his wife, Jessie Colter – and do not forget Willie Nelson. On rockabilly, dance can ensconce the tempos and the song lyrics are simple.

Rockabilly’s favorite subject, of course, is cars, but also dating. These were themes of the songs of legends: Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others! The ceremony will place (like all great evenings) with entertainment and prizes awarded to the best artists of Rockabilly or Country.

The Grammy Awards! You never heard much about them before [France], but this year the French Daft Punk have won several Grammys in their class, so now you know what I’m going to talk to you!

January 26, marked the 56th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California! Each music category is represented -rock, techno, pop music, electronic music, metal, country music and many other styles!

Kacey Musgraves

But as what we’re interested in, of course, is country and the artist who stands out in 2014, is the singer Kacey Musgraves. She walked away with two Grammys, one for Best Country Album, “Same Trailer Different Park”, but also for Best Country Song with the title “Merry Go ‘Round “!

The former lead singer of rock band, Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, won the award for Best Country Solo Performance with the hit “Wagon Wheel” and even the duo The Civil Wars who are husband and wife in life, walked away with the prize, the Best Country Duo, with the single “From This Valley”. Forget disputes that threatened to ruin their careers.

For the Americana part, actor-turned singer and musician Steve Martin accompanied by Edie Brickell took the Grammy for Best American Roots Song with “Love Has Come For You”, a song in the same style as the superb duo Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell who took the prize for Best Americana Album for “Old Yellow Moon”.

And finally, in the Bluegrass category, Del McCoury Band walks away with the award for Best Bluegrass Album for “The Streets Of Baltimore”.

As a sideshow, Kacey Musgraves came to sing her latest hit “Follow Your Arrow” with her group all dressed in bright costumes, all against a backdrop of neon-shaped cacti.

The other Texan, Miranda Lambert, was presented on stage with Billie Joe Armstrong, who is none other than the singer and guitarist of rock band Green Day. They all paid tribute to Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers duo who passed away on January 3 with the song “When Will I Be Loved.” Young Hunter Hayes also took the opportunity to interpret his new novel single “Invisible”, Keith Urban appeared live with Gary Park Junior, and Taylor Swift appeared alone at the piano!

Then came the icing on the cake with the arrival on stage of a great plateau of the real stars of Country music: Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard along with Blake Shelton on a medley of classics, “Highwayman”, “Okie From Muskogee”, and “Don ‘t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”! Thrills guaranteed!

What’s The Buzz ?

Lauren Diamond who has worked with artists such as: Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Jackson Browne, Crosby & Nash, Ani Difranco and many others is releasing her debut LP, entitled “Perseverance”.

This singer/songwriter has been working with a band for years called “LaurenDiamond & The South Paw Specials”. This Diamond in the rough sounds like is a mix between Nora Jones and Mazzy Star with a raspy edge. The 11-trackalbum, which was produced mainly by Aaron Nevezie at Bunker Studios (Williamsburg, BK), is a raw and soulful experience which will leave you hooked with the melodic sounds and catchy lyrics.

Lauren Diamond’s album release party will be held on February 23rd of next month at Rockwood Music Hall, Stage 1. The venue is located at: 196 Allen Street, New York, NY in the lower east side. The musicians booked for the evening are: Dave Dawson, Even Steven, Frosty Lawson, Kevin Hunter, Eric Finland, Jenna Marotta, Mary Mettias and a special guest Lew Soloff to kick off the magical evening. This is going to be a great turn-out and the event is absolutely free.

A bit about Lauren is she recently took a year long journey andmoved to Nashville in 2010-2011 without knowing a soul and made it her hometo build her songwriting skills and networking experiences as an artist. When she returned to New York City she was asked to write a song for the compilation album “Occupy this Album” with major A-list celebrities.

After this project, Diamond put all of her energy into building the band and after this venture, the EP release of “In the Rough” was born into the world. The debut of Lauren’s LP “Perseverance” is a huge accomplishment for Diamond as she personally funded the project while pursuing and completing her master’s degree in education. Diamond is a go-getter and this is just
the beginning of her journey as this singer/songwriter is excited about the unknown challenges and growing experiences up ahead of her…
